| Natchitoches, LA, is the oldest settlement in
Louisiana. It’s also the site where the movie, Steel Magnolias, was
filmed. We’d seen pictures of the Christmas-time Festival of Lights in
Natchitoches, and one year my husband and I treated ourselves to a stay
there for our Christmas present. Of course, I checked for stories of
haunted B&B’s before I made reservations. It seemed that many places in
town were haunted, but I’d begun my search a little late in the season, so
most places were already full. However, I managed to get a room for two
nights at the Judge Porter House. As part of our record of our stay, I
took a picture of the B&B during the day, just after we arrived, with my
husband standing in the doorway. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. During
the day, we also drove around the Cane River plantation houses, shopped
along the main street, and visited the house used in Steel Magnolias, as
well as re-watched the movie one afternoon in our room. The lights came on
as soon as dark fell, and the displays were truly gorgeous and
imaginative. The only thing that marred our stay were periodic
thunderstorms and a light rain even between storms. The rain and storms
began shortly after we arrived.
The first night, even though it was misting rain, I went across the
street from the B&B and took another picture, again with my husband
standing in the doorway. Only this time, a lady decided to join my
husband. She appeared on his left and seems to have her hand tucked into
his arm. She was definitely not there when I snapped this shot; she only
appeared after I got the film developed. Guess she was enjoying our stay
as much as we were! |
